Just finished King Edition! For anyone new to Abscess, I strongly recommend playing 0.82 or even 0.75 (for a shorter playthrough) first, as the new ending does feel explicitly designed for those who played an earlier iteration of the game.

I can see why some folks are upset or confused that King Edition omits Gurgle, but I'm personally very happy that there's now a "complete" version of the game. Incredibly cool that DGT can say they've got a finished title under their belt that they can be proud of with the possibility of revisiting whenever they feel inspired to do so.

Considering what a bummer v.0.75 and 0.82 are, [rot13 spoilers] vg'f avpr gung Thetyr'f "Ubcrshyyl guvatf trg orggre" npghnyyl pnzr gehr. What nags at me now is that I have no idea if exploring the No-Go Doors or avoiding every instance of A CURSE IS COMING! (which I did) has any effect on the story. I've never wanted a Prima Strategy Guide for an indie game so badly lol.

i think id love this if i could make it through the first part TT

Great game, really intriguing and fun, love the cinematics. But does the King edition not contain  anything regarding Gurgle? Is it some sort of dlc ? Will there be a follow up with Gurgle ?
I don't need sleep, I need answers ♥

i love all the random shit in there yes it is cool never stop

Truly a beautiful abstract piece of media. God it has so much personality and i was invested FULLYY! I would recommend this game to anyone who liked yume nikki, OFF, and endacopia. The amount of cutscenes on the DEMO was AWESOME it made me so happy, the death scenes were entertaining too. I was hoping for more secrets but maybe I didn't find them all?  Made me laugh, feel disturbed and nostalgic all at the same time. If you think you have a solid grasp on the theme the game will throw u in for another loop. 10/10 art and sequencing take all of my money immediately. I would say my favorite part was the end of the demo and the computer!!

(+1)

this game makes me completely inconsolable i’m not sure why i keep torturing myself by playing it. just unparalleled

(+2)

I finally played this game after finding it months ago- and I'm really glad I did!! I was so sad when I found out what had happened to those files, and I recorded around the time it was looking hopeless. I'm so happy it's being continued, here is my full playthrough of the demo, featuring my full thoughts and a call to action to help out the dev anyway possible at the end :)

(+5)

I thought I saw a new post in my feed but it was the old update 98 days ago of the hard drive corruption. God damn I was reminded of this game's existence just to remember the crushing reality of its indefinite hiatus.

DGT I don't know if you still read these comments or if you have mainly been avoiding this page altogether, but never in my life have I played such a wacky unpredictable game with creative characters and an intriguing plot like this. Not being a dev myself, I cannot fathom the loss of the files and assets, but holy shit do I hope that one day you will regain the strength and motivation to rebuild and continue this amazing project.

Their latest comment seems to imply they're actually continuing the game

this game lokey got a undertale design

this game is distrubing

i havent stopped thinking about this since i played it... multiple times over... there was always something new and exciting to discover, always some new mystery to think about. and even though its full of symbolism and metaphors, what its truly about just gets clearer and clearer as you go through it, and it really is a story that i think does what it sets out to in a way that most works fall short of, even in its demo state. if that makes sense... what i want to say is, thank you for sharing this with us, and im sorry for the loss of everything, and im looking forward to the future of abscess and our dear friend fishbone

(+1)

Thinking of this as a first draft, and excited to see all that you create in a new from-scratch iteration, with all that you've learned so far. Keep building! <3

(+3)

very good, didn't even realize it was a demo until i played for a little over an hour and got the "end of demo" screen. fair warning, if at any point you find yourself thinking, "oh hey, i think i kinda see where this is going" - no you do not. you might think you do. but you literally never do

(+2)

Hey dude it's really unfortunate to have read your log on your hard drive fucking up. I highly enjoyed this small little thing and I didn't even expect this to be only a demo for a fully-fledged game. You have room for a lot of passion for your craft and interesting ideas for games, that much I can concur. I'm sorry this had to happen to you, but I'm sure you have the spirit to go on and deliver something fantastic soon. Don't overwork your spirit and body, take it easy man. I'm rooting for you.

Came in knowing absolutely nothing and holy shit was it good, can't wait to see your progress on Abscess !

holy shit!!! great work!!!

Few hours later after my last review and I had to play this game again, recorded it to hopefully get some of my friends on board! Going to go back and do some hunting of alt dialogue and find that pesky rumored 4th bad move

(+3)

I don't say this lightly, even in it's demo state this is probably my GOTY.  I love surreal content, and somehow this struck me very hard. I didn't know what I had in store after looking at the trailer and everything surpassed my expectations, the writing is fun, even comedic at times depending on your sense of humor, every 3D scene is full of love and a joy to see and with an endearing protagonist to boot. I've been shilling this game to all my friends- this is such a hidden gem. Abscess is unforgettable

Fascinating and surreal game, it really captures a certain vibe that only RPG Maker games seem to be able to pull off. Very sorry to hear about your hard drive situation, hopefully things will look up for you in the future.

Excellent! Wonderful work!
I am totally invested and I cannot wait to see more!
The world is charming, the original graphics are wonderful, and I'm thoroughly hooked!

Hello! I really really really like your game. Problem is, I got to the new updated part, and then I reached to puzzle where you have to read the clocks on the wall to enter the code to progress. Could you help me please? I can't find information about it anywhere online.

The hand of the clock determines where in the code the number should go. Start from the earliest time, and place the respective number in each slot.

I love this game, but I think thats dumb lol. If you put 1-5 under the clocks and you want me to get a 5 digit code Im obviously going to think that I want to read the clocks and input those numbers in order of the numbers under the clock, not the other way around

(1 edit)

Oh trust me I agree, I only figured this one out by looking into the files to be honest.

I think maybe changing up that puzzle would be for the best, everyone I have sent the game to has gotten stuck there.

I think changing the numbers up would be enough to make the puzzle more clear. The fact that it's 1-5 throws off everyone who sees it. Throwing in a 7 or a 9 or something would do wonders to make it clear those don't represent the place in the code.

amen brother

But thank you so much for your help : 3

is this game just a demo? i'd love to see more, but i fear i am either stuck, or misguided

(1 edit) (+1)

Hi! are you stuck at the clock reading part too?

(+3)

such a weird game... i love it

(+2)

this game absolutely gutted me, very special experience and such a big and sad world to be put into a game this size. the characters and soundtrack will always have a place in my heart

(+4)

phenomenal game, I've played many of these type of experiences and this one was definitely one of the best; oh laa park was a wild and beautiful ride. I will remember Ashley forever.

Phenomenal game, truly. The random voicelines are amazing. I only wish I could save poor FishBone....

very very swag game,
I loved this game and was shitting myself the entire time playing it

(+4)

is there more than one ending?

(+2)

this is very cool! I hope more is done with this in the future!

(+4)

I had to dust off my itchio account to say that I've genuinely loved this, this game charmed the hell out of me, and just made me feel a bit better about life, even though it's such a bittersweet experience, I honestly hope there's more of this!

(1 edit) (+6)

made an acc just to comment on this, gave it a try and was genuinely very engaging! it really felt like one of a kind. i really hope theres more that im yet to find

(+2)

Very cool game and very cool designs i like

(1 edit) (+3)

Real special little surreal game here.  The sprite portraits are charming, the world-building has an excellent subtle flavor, and the voice work is especially professional. The tense atmosphere is maintained by some pretty common tricks (sudden noises that are just there to make you flinch rather than actually warning you of incoming danger, tame visual jumpscares, warped music), but it's effective without feeling hammy. Very happy I stumbled upon this!

Judging by the title screen stating this is version 0.75 and the fact there are optional areas to explore, I assume multiple endings are intended, but none seem to be present in this version. It's a bit of a shame, since I went far out of my way to try to get a different result, but nothing changes. Crossing my fingers this game receives an update, because there is SO MUCH potential here for some awesome branching paths.

Also, I feel it's worth mentioning for anyone sensitive to imagery/mentions of suicide: there's a sudden and potentially shocking development related to that subject. I personally don't have that sensitivity, but I DID almost share this game with someone who experienced a traumatic suicide in their immediate family –that tidbit would have absolutely ruined their day.

EDIT: If the warning about themes of suicide was there before, I'm so sorry I missed it, but if it's new, thank you so much for adding it! :)

(Spoilers)

I'm curious if there is more than one ending.

After beating the game, a new NPC appears in the King's Doorway. They have a few different dialogue routes you can go through but it otherwise doesn't appear to affect anything.

Likewise, going through all of the No Go Door paths doesn't appear to affect anything either.

It just feels like there should be more... Maybe I'm simply missing something? Or maybe that's truly all there is.

In any case, this was a worthwhile and interesting experience.
