The future of Abscess.

Sadly two weeks ago the external hard drive I used to carry everything related to Abscess was corrupted. While I did take it in to get repaired, there wasn't much I could do to save it. Inside the hard drive were all the blender files of current and future cutscenes waiting to be implement, used and unused music, concept art, sprite sheets, and sadly the entirety of Abscess' project files. There was so many things I could have done to prevent this, such as saving the files to a cloud or backing up files to another drive but you never really expect such a big hard drive to suddenly fail you in its lifetime.

It hurts... I wanted to do so much with Abscess, I had so many characters, ideas, and worlds planned for it because it gave me something to look forward to. Now that it is all gone, I can't help but feel aimless and helpless on how to continue its story. Even now, the current version of Abscess 0.82 is buggy and riddled with spelling mistakes that I was planning on smoothing out for the 0.85 release but never got the chance to. Ultimately I do not fully understand how I want to continue the story, maybe through another game, through art, or even through animations but understand that FishBone and Gurgle still have a future despite grim situation.

I am so deeply sorry for those looking forward to see more within this game. I just hope you can get some enjoyment within its short demo now. Thank you.

SPOILERS: For people who need some help with the current version's codes and secrets:

-The code to the computer terminal within in Oh La Loo park is located on the plastic pipes residing on the wall above the door, the code was 2510.

-The code to the Hell-Door is the order of each clock's stage and its connected number, therefor the code to the door was 54231.

-Bad Moves do not affect the ending to the game but can cause changes to the world. There are currently up to four bad moves you can preform.

Really awful to hear that this has happened. Abscess feels like such an amazing experience so far and I'm not sure I've played anything like it.  Wishing you all the best.

I'm honestly devastated to hear this... I was and still am looking forward to this game...
But if there is nothing that can be done to keep this as a  playable experience, then so be it I suppose... Can't say I'm gonna fully accept that but I'll be excited to see FishBone and Gurgle regardless... Love this universe and it's characters.
Please keep your hopes up... There's gonna be people looking forward for anything regarding ABSCESS regardless of it's format at this point.

Saddened to hear the news, hope you can still find the drive to create regardless of the medium you choose, will defo look forward to it.

This must  feel awful and i share the sentiment, id love to see this project to its finished state but if such thing cant happen its okay, ive been fixated with it ever since release so any kind of continuation you decide to take from it will be amazing, the whole story, world and characters were ones that ive found so unique and full of love, ill never forget any of them.
Just hoping this just ends up being a single bump in a long road , take all the time you need and i wish you the best!

Im so deeply sorry that this happened, losing my work like that is truly one of my biggest nightmares and i can't imagine what it must be like to truly be in your shoes right now. If it means anything i would love to see more of abscess, even if it takes a long time. I've been sharing this demo with my friends and we all deeply love this game and the interesting world you've built for it. Even in it's current state this game is among some of my favorite RPGMaker games. <3

This is extremely disheartening to have read right after beating and falling in love with the demo ack.
Good wishes to your future endeavors, or that long break to cool down from this devastating event, I've also had that happen before as a creative and it takes the wind out of your sails pretty bad.

But if you ever decide to come back to Abscess and finish it, there are people who would love to see it grow to the end, me included. Something about it personally struck me, so I'm invested in whatever happens to this project (even if it ends up nothing at all and a new game gets made instead, your work seems promising just from this game alone).

If you want, I can send you a decompiled project version of v0.87

It has everything up to the current released update, though I understand that it will still mean a lot of lost data.

I deeply recommend that you continue this project. I think with proper work and advertising that this could genuinely be the next big RPG Maker hit. I made a post about the game a few days ago and within a few hours it had garnered a lot of attention on Twitter. It'll be hard, but I still recommend that you do it.

Being able to look onto your finished work, that finished game project, is absolutely worth it.

All of that being said, I absolutely understand if you need to take a break from development. A loss like this is unbelievably hard to deal with, and you should take some time to rest and recuperate.

Thankfully the files have been decompiled in full and work on the game has continued. Losing the art files and original Blender files for the new cutscenes and levels has made getting back to its development a lot more rough, sometimes it is hard to resume projects when things fall apart.

I want to thank you so much for your support not only on itch.io but on twitter as well. Hopefully you, and others, will enjoy the final updates of Abscess.

That is excellent news!

And I totally understand, loss of work can be one of the most demoralizing things to deal with, and I applaud you for being able to continue with development after that.

I think that you've got a really great game here with a lot of personality and a clear passion behind it, so I can't wait to see where it will go, and I guarantee you that others will be excited as well!

I promise that your hard work will pay off.

Can’t you “crack” your own game and getting the failed? It’s sad losing everything and I am sorry for hearing that, I went through it.

This is pretty devastating. The world of this game and the storytelling and personality are excruciatingly unique and interesting and it would be a shame for it to just disappear.

If you do ever revisit the project, I feel that a different engine would do it a massive service. It felt like the game wanted to crawl outside of the screen, but the engine was preventing anything truly unexpected.

Whatever you do, you're gonna make some amazing things.

I can't imagine how devastating losing that much work must feel. I am so sorry this happened to you, but I absolutely loved what you were able to share with us - it stuck with me in a way I hadn't experienced in a long time. Thanks so much for introducing us to FishBone and I can't wait to see what you make next.

Omg Im so sorry about that. I just finished your game and I absolutely loved it man. If you made a project this awesome, Im sure you are capable of making wonderful art in the future mayb other than this. Whatever you end up doing I look super forward to it, and wish you the best of luck

There are tools to decompile RPG Maker games, so you could get the source code back if you're willing to go back to its currently released state.

Still, massive shame, loved the demo.

gosh that sucks :(((
Wishin you the best with however you go about it!

I know what I'm going to be doing later backing up my projects and then trying out your game.
